Kanyerus For Change Project
Background
The Kanyerus For Change Project was launched in October 2022. It is a Women Right to Health project being implemented in Kanyerus of North Pokot sub county, West Pokot County in Kenya. The project aims to increase access to reproductive health services, increase women voice regarding health issues such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), forced child marriages and teenage pregnancies. The aim is also to increase women´s contribution to the local community as they have a major role in community development.
The project targets all the women in this area, both young and old together and because men are always considered the heads of the house and makes all decision, the project also targets men.
The project strategy has been to train and motivate some community members to lead in community sensitization to drum up support for a change process. This has been done through formation of community groups (champions) made up of both women and men, boys and girls and local leaders. Two groups have been established, in Kapetakinei in November 2021 and in Upper Kanyerus in November 2022. This project is now ending in November 2025 and the expected results for this period is as seen below.
Objective
To initiate a process of change that would leads to women having better access to health care and that traditions such as female genital mutilation, child marriage and teenage pregnancies are reduced.
