Stop Teenage Pregnancy Project

Background

The ‘Stop teenage pregnancies project is in Suam ward, Kacheliba sub county, in West Pokot County. The project aims at addressing the high incidences of teenage pregnancies which significantly impacts the health, education, and future prospects of young girls in the county. According to” NASCOP(National AIDS and STIS control program survey March 2024, their report indicated that Suam ward was leading in adolescent pregnancy and the survey from KDHS 2022 West Pokot was the second highest in teenage pregnancies among Kenya’s 47 counties, at 36%, up from 29% in 2014. Teenage pregnancies often force girls out of school, impacting their education and future economic opportunities

Therefore, the project focuses on comprehensive education to identified teenagers within specific identified schools who receive education on identified topics that target both the root causes and contributing factors such as harmful cultural practices, limited awareness of reproductive health and poverty.

By collaborating with identified mentors from within the schools, the project seeks to create a supportive environment that empowers adolescents with knowledge, promotes safe practices, and fosters a commitment to a brighter, more secure future for the teens.
